Pochettino and Tuchel named as favourites to become NEXT Spurs boss
Mauricio Pochettino is the overwhelming favourite to be the next Tottenham boss – while Thomas Tuchel Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Frank are also hotly tipped – with Antonio Conte’s future under huge scrutiny after limp Champions League exit
- Spurs crashed out of the Champions League after defeat to Milan on Wednesday
- Tottenham are unlikely to renew Antonio Conte’s expiring contract this summer
- Vincent Kompany has also been tipped – while Jose Mourinho is an outside punt!
Mauricio Pochettino is the overwhelming favourite to replace Antonio Conte as the next Tottenham manager, should Spurs’ Italian boss leave the club between now and the end of the season.
The former Tottenham head coach, who carved out frequent top four finishes and guided the north London outfit to the Champions League final in 2019, has yet to return to management since his sacking from Paris Saint-Germain in July last year.
Due to his affection for the club and his status as a free agent, Pochettino is the frontrunner to land the next managerial position at Spurs, who crashed out of the Champions League against AC Milan at the last-16 stage on Wednesday.
According to odds provided by Paddy Power, ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and Brentford head coach Thomas Frank are among those expected to rival Pochettino for the job, should Tottenham choose not to extend Conte’s contract when it expires in the summer.
Although Tottenham still hold a spot in the Premier League’s top four, fans have grown frustrated by Conte’s pragmatic and lustreless style of play this campaign.

The Italian is likely to leave the north London club after crashing out of the Champions League
Moreover, Wednesday’s Champions League exit all but confirmed another season without silverware for Spurs, who are set to extend their barren 15-year stint without a trophy this term.
Conte’s turbulent season off the pitch has cast doubt over his long-term future at Tottenham, with the Italian manager forced to grieve the deaths of three close friends over the last six months.
He is mourning the loss of his old Juventus team-mate Gianluca Vialli, who passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer in January, Gian Piero Ventrone, Tottenham’s former fitness coach who passed away suddenly in October, and close friend Sinisa Mihajlovic, who died aged 53 in mid-December.
Tuchel was axed by Chelsea a month into the season and replaced by Graham Potter, who is joint-seventh favourite to take over at Tottenham. The ex-Brighton boss, who suffered a torrid run of form before recording back-to-back wins against Leeds and Borussia Dortmund, could well be on Spurs’ radar should he lose his job at Stamford Bridge before the end of the season.

Still a free agent since his Blues sacking, Tuchel will likely be a key target for Spurs given his Champions League success with Chelsea in 2021.
Meanwhile, De Zerbi and Frank have impressed at Brighton and Brentford respectively, challenging for European qualification following fruitful seasons in the top half of the table.
Burnley’s Vincent Kompany, Celtic manager Angelos Postecoglou, under-pressure PSG boss Christophe Galtier and experienced Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri have all been given a reasonable shot at landing the likely vacancy by the bookies.
Brendan Rodgers, who is struggling against relegation at Leicester, and Luis Enrique, who stepped down from his role as Spain head coach after crashing out at the World Cup’s last-16 stage, complete the bookies’ top 10.
As for outside punts, former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper have been linked to the Tottenham hot seat, while ex-Spurs midfielder Michael Carrick has also been given a mention after his impressive season at Middlesbrough in the Championship.
According to the bookies, Zidane and Cooper are twice as likely to land the job than current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who won LaLiga and the Champions League last season.
Meanwhile, the chances of Jose Mourinho having another crack at the Spurs job are believed to be extremely thin, with the Roma boss coming in at 100/1.
