Piers Morgan highlights Arsenals awful record and calls for Arteta to improve

Piers Morgan has criticised Arsenal's home form under Mikel Arteta and says the Spaniard needs to improve as the 'clock is ticking.'

Since Arteta's appointment in December 2019, the Gunners have struggled to win games at the Emirates in the Premier League.

Last Monday's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace was case in point.

Despite taking the lead early on, Arsenal required a last-gasp equaliser from Alexandre Lacazatte to salvage a point after Christian Benteke and Odsonne Edouard turned the game on its head in the second half.

It was the 16th time Arsenal have dropped points at home under Arteta, a statistic which has not gone unnoticed by vocal Gunners critic Morgan.

Quote tweeting a post which displayed Arsenal's home record in the Premier League under Arteta – P33, W17, D6, L10 – Morgan said "This is an awful record.

"Arteta talks a good game but he’s a long way off proving himself to be a as good a manager and the clock is ticking."

Arteta came under-fire for Arsenal's poor start to the season after spending £150million in the summer transfer market, but the mood has cooled following a positive run of results.

The Gunners are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions, including a 3-1 drubbing of north London rivals Tottenham.

Consecutive draws have somewhat stalled their momentum, however, with the latest stalemate against Palace causing frustration among supporters – and Arteta.

Speaking after the game, the Spaniard told Sky Sports" "A strange game. We started really well, we were dominant and we scored the goal. After that we lacked composure to manage the game. We didn't have a sequence of passes and then the team was stretched.

"After half time we changed a couple of things and we got better but we gave the ball away in areas you can't and after that we gave a mountain to climb.

"My perception was we were trying to protect something instead of going for the second one. We were not comfortable."

Arsenal fans will be hoping their side doesn't fall into the same trap if they take the lead early on against Aston Villa on Friday night.
