Piers Morgan claims France were ‘deliberately poisoned’ ahead of World Cup final

Piers Morgan claimed that the France team were deliberately poisoned ahead of the World Cup final after a disastrous half against Argentina.

The current holders started off the defence of their World Cup crown in disastrous fashion, failing to even manage a shot in the first half. Argentina, meanwhile, did not wait around – ferociously giving the French hell from the get-go.

It saw Angel di Maria fouled in the box by Ousmane Dembele before the main man Lionel Messi netted from the resulting penalty. Minutes later, Di Maria turned goalscorer after a marvellous break that saw the Juventus star deliver a sucker punch finish past Hugo Lloris.

There had been suggestions that members of the France squad were suffering from an illness called Camel flu, a common problem across the Arabian Peninsula. However, TalkTV host Morgan has his own theory.

He tweeted: "It wasn’t a virus, the French team clearly got deliberately poisoned."

As an Arsenal fan, Morgan knows all about intentional biological warfare after the infamous 'Lasagne-gate' debacle where Tottenham's team were hampered by food poisoning the night before they faced the Gunners for a spot in the top four.

Arsenal emerged victorious while Martin Jol's men missed out in cruel circumstances – and Morgan seems to think that a similar incident might have occurred between France and Argentina.

However, the TV personality might just be infuriated by Messi's impending World Cup victory after nailing his colours to the Cristiano Ronaldo side of the debate over who is better.

It was Morgan who Ronaldo turned to when he gave his incendiary interview over his time at Manchester United that led to his contract being ripped up and the British journalist has often praised the Portuguese icon.
