Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sends message to Erling Haaland over Barcelona transfe
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says it would be an ‘honour’ if he played alongside Erling Haaland for Barcelona.
The Borussia Dortmund striker’s future is uncertain ahead of the summer transfer window with several clubs across Europe keen to secure a deal.
Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all in the running for the Norway international, while it’s understood that the 21-year-old is available due to a €75 million (£62m) release clause.
Aubameyang finally got off the mark for Barcelona on Sunday as he scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Valencia and the striker insists he would welcome the chance to see Haaland make the move to Camp Nou.
When asked about Haaland potentially joining Barcelona, Aubameyang told SPORT: ‘I’m always prepared for healthy competition with my teammates, so it would be an honour to play with him if he ends up joining Barca.
‘I’m not a coach, but I think Haaland is a great player.
‘He scores a lot of goals, he has a very good physique and a lot of speed. He is very big, but he runs a lot. He is incredible.’
Speaking in January, Barca president Joan Laporta refused to rule out a move for Haaland after reports claimed that he has privately told colleagues that he will attempt to sign the striker from Dortmund this summer.
‘All the great players think about joining Barcelona,’ Laporta said.
‘We’re still a point of reference in the transfer market.
‘I don’t want to talk about specific players. It doesn’t benefit us in any way, because their value increases. We’re looking to reinforce where the coach wants.
‘Barcelona are a reference in the transfer market. We’re working to improve the squad, and we’ll soon see Barcelona’s resurgence.’
