Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ‘happy’ at Arsenal amid Barcelona transfer speculation

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is happy to be where he is at Arsenal despite links to Barcelona.

It comes as reports emerged that the two clubs had spoken about a potential swap deal that would see Philippe Coutinho go the other way.

There was a huge commotion around the Emirates last summer as Aubameyang signed a new contract.

Arsenal were desperate to tie down the Gabon international as he entered the final year of his deal, very much worried about a repeat of the Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez debacles.

In the end, the Gunners caved into Aubameyang's demands – seeing the striker land a three-year deal worth £39m.

That would see the 32-year-old earn £250,000-a-week, comfortably making him the club's top earner but that season he had his worse seasons for Arsenal.

In 29 Premier League appearances, the former Borussia Dortmund striker scored just 10 times whereas the year before he had netted 22.

It coincided with a terrible domestic season for Arsenal, who finished eighth while talk spread that Aubameyang could leave in the summer.

Reports in Spain emerged that Barcelona had made contact over a swap deal that would see Coutinho go the other way.

But according to the Express, Auba has no intentions of leaving north London and is happy where he is.

And he does not want to leave for Barcelona despite interest in his services.

That will come as a huge sigh of relief for Mikel Arteta, who is already looking to sign a striker and being without his main man would leave them in an even more difficult situation.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both linked with exits as they enter the last year of their contracts.

Lautaro Martinez and Tammy Abraham had been eyed as replacements but the former looks set to sign a new deal at Inter Milan whereas the latter joined AS Roma instead.
