  • Pope is set to undergo scans and could be forced to have surgery on the injury
  • Manchester United have snakes in their dressing room, players who are not running. Bruce, Robson, Keane would never allow this – It’s All Kicking Off

Nick Pope has been pictured with his left arm in a sling following the injury he sustained during Newcastle’s 1-0 win against Manchester United on Saturday.

The England international was seen leaving Juniper Restaurant in Wilmslow, Cheshire on Monday afternoon.

He is the latest Magpies star to be set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a repeat of the dislocated shoulder problem he experienced while at Burnley.

Pope did not play for just over five months on that previous occasion between July 2018 and January 2019.

An operation is currently considered the most likely course of action amid an expected absence of around four months.

Newcastle are considering a possible move for former Man United goalkeeper David de Gea

Back up keeper Martin Dubravka came on to replace Pope against United, where he had a brief loan spell last season.

The Slovakian helped Newcastle preserve their 1-0 lead as they secured a deserved victory against Erik ten Hag’s inconsistent outfit.

Pope’s anticipated prolonged absence has motivated Eddie Howe to look toward the upcoming transfer window as a source of replenishment for his stricken side.

Former Man United star David de Gea, who has been a free agent since leaving Old Trafford last summer, is being considered as an addition.

The Spaniard would have obvious appeal given his pedigree, immediate availability and the fact he would not require a transfer fee.

Though he was on £375,000-per-week during his final contract in Manchester and would have to accept lower to fit in with their wage structure if Newcastle were to make a firm move for him.

Howe’s side also have Loris Karius, who faced Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final last season, and Mark Gillespie among their goalkeeping ranks though the latter has yet to play a league game since returning to the club in 2020.
