Pep Guardiola’s dressing room message after Liverpool demolition revealed

Pep Guardiola has told his Manchester City stars to forget about thinking they've already won the Premier League title.

City have produced a historic run of 15 straight wins in all competitions to help them charge five points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Guardiola's men can increase their lead to eight points with a win over Tottenham at the Etihad on Saturday.

City are red-hot favourites to make it three title wins in four years, but Ilkay Gundogan has revealed how Guardiola told his players not to take the title for granted.

Guardiola fired the warning to his stars in the visitors' dressing room at Anfield following their 4-1 demolition of reigning champions Liverpool last weekend.

Gundogan said: "It's very important to stay humble. I said that after the game against Liverpool and the manager said it to us.

"It's very important because it's such an extraordinary season and we definitely don't take it for granted that we've won 4-1 away at Anfield.

"We appreciate what's going on for us right now and we should try to do our best to keep improving and maintaining that level.

"But we also know that in the games we'll face difficult games against bottom sides, like we did against Sheffield United at home.

"They were a team that made us struggle a lot, so every single game has its own character and own challenge with it. That's why it's difficult in every single game."

Gundogan might want to remain cautious, but the German international admits to having that same feeling of invincibility as City did in their previous back-to-back title triumphs under Guardiola.

He added: "It was the feeling I had inside of myself that you're so strong as a team at the moment, not just yourself. That's just an amazing feeling.

"I had that feeling a few times in the season where we had 100 points or the season after when we won the league one point ahead of Liverpool.

"You have that feeling sometimes when you feel so strong and unbeatable – and that was the best moment that I had throughout the month."

Gundogan scored five goals in January and produced a string of outstanding performances to be voted the latest top flight 'Player of the Month'.
