Pep Guardiola changes his mind on Arsenal after 4-1 Man City win
Arteta admits 'better team won' as Arsenal lose at Man City
Pep Guardiola insists he’d much rather be in his team’s position than Arsenal’s after Manchester City took control of the title race with a 4-1 thumping at the Etihad on Wednesday night. The Catalan has previously declared he’d rather be Arsenal given they sat top of the table but is now far happier with City in control of their own destiny as they look to become just the second club in Premier League history to win three successive titles.
The Gunners’ lead is now trimmed to just two points and City have two games in hand to play, meaning they will win the league if they win six of their final seven matches. And Guardiola admits despite previously stating he’d rather have been Arsenal, now he’s delighted with the position his reigning champions find themselves in.
He said: “Absolutely [I prefer] my position now. It’s in our hands. I’d love these two games to have six points. We have to win them. But I prefer to be because it’s with us.
“Until today I preferred Arsenal’s position in the Premier League because it’s in their hands but now it’s in our destiny. The next three games will dictate a lot. Fulham come from the Championship and have been amazing.
“After we have two games at home – West Ham and Leeds. I don’t want to anticipate but at home this season we feel comfortable with the crowd. I think the next three games will be really, really important.

“But of course the most important thing is our destiny is now in our own hands. Arsenal if they won it’d be in their hands. To win the games depends on us, that’s the best way to approach the last seven games.”
On the performance, Guardiola added: “Really good. Congratulations to all the players and backroom staff. Not decisive but really, really important. We played really good from the beginning until the end. Still they are top of the league.
“The reality is we are two points behind, of course we have two games in hand but today is the day we played really, really good. It’s important to beat our rival.”

Kevin De Bruyne scored twice and assisted John Stones’ header that made it 2-0 from a free-kick. And Erling Haaland, who added a late fourth, tormented the Arsenal backline and helped himself to both assists for his Belgian team-mate’s brace.
“When we can find Kevin and he can run because they’ve pressed high, he’s unstoppable, we know that,” Guardiola said, adding of the pair’s link-up: “The game belongs to them. I didn’t teach them how to find each other in training.
“When Kevin has the ball, Erling knows that he can run and get it. And on the opposite side as well, it happened many times. Kevin is a master of assists. With Erling or without Erling. Erling will score goals all the time with Kevin or without Kevin. Being together, when a team plays so high with the space behind, they are so dangerous and we use it.”
