Pep Guardiola breaks down in tears as Man City win Premier League on final day
An emotional Pep Guardiola broke down in tears after his Manchester City side won the Premier League on a dramatic final day of the season.
City pulled off a remarkable five-minute comeback to beat Aston Villa 3-2 and pip title rivals Liverpool by one point. The full-time whistle brought jubilant scenes at the Etihad as the home crowd invaded the pitch – and it was all too much for Guardiola.
The Spanish manager couldn't contain his emotions after hugging his coaching staff as he began crying joyful tears. He then rushed down the tunnel while his players were mobbed on the pitch.
It looked like City may have fallen at the last hurdle with Villa leading 2-0 with 15 minutes left to play. At that point Liverpool were only drawing 1-1 against Wolves so the title was hanging in the balance.
Ilkay Gundogan then struck twice either side of a Rodri finish to flip the game on its head, which proved vital as Jurgen Klopp's side went on to score two goals and win 3-1.
Where does Guardiola rank amongst the best managers of all-time? Let us know in the comments section.
Guardiola received huge praise from Sky Sports pundits Jamie Redknapp, Micah Richards and Roy Keane for how he handled the match when City were losing. Redknapp hailed his substitution to bring Gundogan on as "one of the best in Premier League history".
Ex-City defender Richards added: "Everyone's talking about Pep overthinking things, today’s a genius move. Brings on Gundogan, gets you two goals. Sterling gets the assist as well. Four in five years. He had to react."
Former Manchester United captain Keane labelled him "one of the greatest coaches ever". He continued: "I know people say 'well he's working with the top players'.
"You've still got to manage them, you've gotta have a style of play. They've been so consistent over the years. They're the hardest workig team, obviously its between them and Liverpool. That comes from him."
