People are only just realising which football team King Charles supports

Many people are wondering which football team King Charles III supports as the world stops to watch his coronation.

The coronation, which begins at 11am at Westminster Abbey, will see Charles officially become King and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, officially crowned Queen Camilla, all as part of the same ceremony.

While it was never quite clear which football team Queen Elizabeth II supported – with speculation often hinting at Arsenal or West Ham – it is much clearer who the new King is a fan of.

King Charles revealed his football love affair during a reception at Windsor Castle some 11 years ago. It was then that he divulged his support not for Manchester United, Chelsea or Liverpool – but for Burnley.

During an engagement for the British Asian Trust, Charles revealed that he is in fact a Clarets fan. He told the audience: "A consortium of my charities, including the British Asian Trust, has been working in Burnley.

"Hence, some of you asked this evening whether I support a British football club and I said ‘yes – Burnley’. And people have responded ‘Burnley?’ Oh yes, because Burnley has been through some very challenging times and I’m trying to find ways of helping to regenerate and raise aspirations and self-esteem in that part of the world.

"My charities have been working there together to demonstrate that an integrated approach can produce the best dividends."

The new King has visited Burnley's Turf Moor stadium in the past and was even presented with a shirt with 'HRH 1' on the back. He'll have been delighted with his side's progress this season after Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany guided the Clarets back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Burnley fans will be hoping King Charles can get along to Turf Moor and catch a game soon, although Monday's final Championship match of the season against Cardiff might come too quickly after the coronation.
