Pele’s mum can say final goodbyes at son’s funeral after being ‘unaware he died’
Pele's mum will be able to say her final goodbyes at her son's funeral after initially being "unaware he died".
The Brazilian football legend sadly passed away on Thursday at the age of 82 following a long battle with colon cancer, although his 100-year-old mother did not know he had died at first. Pele's sister, who looks after his mother Celeste, had not yet told her that he had lost his battle with illness.
Maria Lucia do Nascimento revealed last week: “We talk but she doesn’t know the situation. She’s in her own world.”

“She opens her eyes when I mention his name and say, ‘We’re going to pray for him' but she’s not really conscious of what I’m saying.”
However, the Mirror now report that Celeste will have a chance to say a final goodbye to her son at his funeral on Monday. The service is set to take place at Santos' Estadio Urbano Caldeira.
Fans are said to have been waiting for up to 14 hours to reach the front of the queue for the service. After 24 hours, the coffin will be taken through the streets of Sao Paulo.
The parade will pass through the Canal 6 neighbourhood where Celeste lives, allowing her to say her final goodbye. Pele's final resting place will be the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica, a vertical cemetery which overlooks Santos' stadium.
Once the coffin has arrived at the cemetery, a private funeral ceremony is set to be held with only family members in attendance.
Pele's mother only turned 100 in November, with the three-time World Cup winner sharing a touching message on social media to celebrate.
At the time, he wrote: “Today, we celebrate 100 years of Dona Celeste's life. From a young age, she taught me the value of love and peace.
"I have well over a hundred reasons to be thankful for being her son. I share these photos with you, with great emotion to celebrate this day. Thank you for every day by your side, Mom."
