Manchester United legend Paul Scholes appears to be seen placing a foot into his mouth and biting toenails in a bizarre Instagram story shared by his daughter.

Alicia Scholes, 20, shared the video, which remains live, on Saturday to her 64,000 followers.

It appears to show the former Red Devils ace seemingly nibbling toenails, although it cannot be verified whose foot it is.

A caption read "true love" across the short video, while reaction online has featured mainly football fans highlighting their confusion at why her dad would apparently do such a thing.

One wrote: “You do realise he could have used toenail clippers.”

Another said: “Who'd have thought Evra was the normal one in that team?”

A third said: “Genuinely want to break my phone and never touch social media again wtf did I just watch.”

Another stated: “Surely he can just pay someone to sort that.”

The last one commented: "Ole just gotta play this video in his press conference next time Scholes says anything."

Daily Star Sport has approached Scholes' representatives for a response.

Scholes was on pundit duties for Man United’s 3-2 win over Atalanta in the Champions League midweek.

Despite the Red Devils’ brilliant comeback, the 46-year-old said he still had reservations about the side’s ability, saying that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would be rubbing his hands in delight over their recent display.

"The first half put me off the second half," he said via BT Sport. "The two midfield players were playing on their own, they conceded so many chances. Against quality opposition there’s no way you’re winning that game.

"Can they go and play against Liverpool or Manchester City like that? Never in a million years.

“Imagine Jurgen Klopp during that first half at home, watching rubbing his hands together."

However, the German boss denied this claim, saying: “No, I was not rubbing my hands. I prepare the team for a tough game against a really good opponent. I don't prepare them now for 'Man United and battle of Britain' and all these things.

"We are long enough together that we know the importance of this game. We prepare them for a really good football team. Plus it's an away game for us and a home game for them."

United will face off against the Reds this Sunday at Old Trafford – a win would see them jump to a single point behind their rivals in the league, while a loss would have them remaining in eighth spot or dropping down further.
