Manchester United heroes Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand think their former side have made positive changes under Michael Carrick. Carrick has taken over as the Red Devils’ caretaker manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the weekend.
United were in action on Tuesday night as they travelled to Spain to face Villarreal in their penultimate Champions League group stage match.
And the Red Devils produced the performance they were looking for as they scored two late goals to claim victory.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 78th minute as he lifted the ball over goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli’s head after Etienne Capoue had lost possession to Fred.
And United secured the three points as Jadon Sancho thrashed the ball into the top corner in the last minute to score his first goal for his new club.
“The discipline and team shape was there,” admitted Scholes. “It’s not easy going to places like this and getting results.

“The first half was a bit shaky, a little bit all over the place until they moved [Anthony] Martial to the left-hand side.
“We won many games in that way just staying in it. You know at some point you’re always going to have quality to score goals and this might be a way of United playing.
“You can see them playing like this against Chelsea on Sunday although it’s against a lot better opposition but that way of playing is something he’ll stick with.”
