His compatriot Raphael Varane was due to arrive in the UK on Monday but will fly in later this week after resolving a visa issue ahead of finalising his move from Real Madrid.

United expect a crowd of 55,000 for Saturday’s friendly with Everton at Old Trafford which kicks off at 12.45pm.

Manchester United will be in line for a windfall of around £4m should Chelsea strike a £100m deal for Romelu Lukaku.

United had a sell on clause inserted in Lukaku’s contract when he left for Inter Milan that entitles them to around 4 per cent of any future sale fee
