Patrick Vieira does NOT want Wilfried Zaha to leave in January

‘We have to wait and see’: Patrick Vieira does NOT want Wilfried Zaha to be sold in January but is uncertain whether he will extend his contract which will expire this summer

  • Patrick Vieira admits he does not want to sell Wilfried Zaha in January
  • But they are playing a waiting game with Zaha who could leave this summer
  • His contract will expire in June 2023 and several big clubs could move for him
  • It is unclear whether he’ll sign an extension and he can speak with other clubs

Patrick Vieira does not want Wilfried Zaha to be sold in Janaury but is unsure if he will extend his contract.

Having risen through the ranks at Crystal Palace as a youth player, Zaha has traded shirts between the Eagles and Manchester United over the years, but could make his final farewell from Selhurst Park when his contract expires in June.

Zaha is already free to talk to other clubs, with SportsMail understanding that Barcelona and Juventus have both been interested in the possibility of signing the 30-year-old.

Zaha’s contract will expire in June 2023 and there is no assurance he will sign an extension

Yet his current boss, Vieira is keen to keep him at the club for at least another six months, but the former Arsenal man admitted that it is a waiting game to see if Zaha will stay in south London past then.

‘We know the situation and we want to keep him. He’s an important player for the club and he’s loved here,’ the Palace manager said ahead of their FA Cup third Round tie against Southampton.

‘We have to wait and see what he will decide to do. What matters is the commitment he is showing in the games.’

Vieira has openly claimed the club would ‘like to keep him’ but said it was a waiting game now

Zaha has featured in 16 matches for Crystal Palace this year, yielding six goals for the Eagles

Although he failed to galvanise his team durin their 4-0 loss to Tottenham earlier this week

Having played a whopping 446 games for the Eagles, Zaha has returned an excellent 89 goals and 75 assists for the club, putting him in the bracket of one of the best goalscorers the Eagles have ever had.

While, he failed to galvanise his side during their humbling 4-0 loss to Tottenham in midweek, his tally already stands at six goals from 16 games this season.

And if Palace were to part ways with him, Vieira’s commitment to bringing ‘next level’ players to the club would certainly be undermined.

Interestingly, Palace have already lost goalkeeper Jack Butland to Manchester United in a surprise loan move that will see the English shot stopper provide cover to David de Gea and like Zaha, only has six months on the end of his contract.
