Ozil’s Fenerbahce wages and bonuses show huge differences from Arsenal contract
Mesut Ozil's wages have taken a huge blow following his decision to sign for Fenerbahce.
The German called time on his career at Arsenal this month with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
But after being left out of Mikel Arteta's Premier League and Europa League squads, all parties agreed to cancel his remaining months on his deal.
It saw Arsenal fork out a large sum of the £8m wages he would have earned if he had stayed.
Ozil was on £350,000-a-week at the Emirates despite being ostacised for large parts under Arteta and his predecessor Unai Emery.
However, the World Cup winner is earning a fraction of that sum with his new club Fenerbahce.
According to AS, Ozil is on a £3.5m salary in Istanbul – roughly working out at around £67,000-a-week.
That is less than 20 per cent of what he was earning while in north London, though the playmaker is over the moon to sign for Fenerbahce.
The Super Lig team are Ozil's boyhood club and he admitted he has been an avid fan of the team throughout his life.
"I am a Fenerbahce fan," he told NTV in Turkey.
"That is why I am very happy to be coming to Turkey with Fenerbahce. I'm very excited.
"God gave me the chance to wear this jersey as a Fenerbahce fan. God willing, I will carry it with honour and do everything I can for the team."
However, the 32-year-old will have to wait a bit longer before making his debut for his new club.
After flying in from England, Ozil has had to self-isolate for two weeks as per Covid regulations.
The former Real Madrid star has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Fenerbahce, taking his time there to 2024.
