Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes decision on Daniel James after Jadon Sancho transfer
Manchester United are set to reward Daniel James with a new contract to keep the winger at Old Trafford, despite the arrival of Jadon Sancho.
Sancho, 20, joined the club on Friday in a £73million deal from Dortmund and he’s expected to slot in on the right flank at the Theatre of Dreams.
James was a regular during his first season at United but he was in and out of the side last term, leading to speculation that he could be sold as Leeds United and Brighton are interested.
But the Sun claim that Marcus Rashford’s upcoming shoulder operation means Solskjaer is keen to retain James, as he wants more options in attack while the England forward recuperates.
Rashford is set to miss the first two months of the season as he has surgery on a long-standing issue and United don’t want to rush him back given how long the problem has been troubling him.
It’s even suggested that James will be given a new deal to stay at the club as he’s halfway through the four-year deal that he penned when he joined from Swansea City in 2019.
United lost 4-2 to QPR in their second pre-season friendly at Loftus Road on Saturday.
The likes of Sancho, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Harry Maguire are still on holiday after their involvement in international tournaments over the summer and Solskjaer could be without a host of first-team players for the side’s opener against Leeds on the opening weekend.
