Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given his reaction to the protests from club supporters which led to their game against Liverpool on Sunday being postponed. The Red Devils were scheduled to face arch rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon but the game was forced to be abandoned after protests from hundreds of United supporters.
Loads of supporters breached security at Old Trafford and broke into the stadium, setting off flares and holding up banners in anger at the Glazers.
There was also another big group which protested outside the Lowry Hotel – where the United players were set to travel to Old Trafford from – preventing Solskjaer’s side from leaving.
The match was eventually postponed with no date yet set on when it will take place.
The protests have sparked a huge debate in football since though with the likes of Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Roy Keane all giving their thoughts.
Former players have sided with the angry supporters for their frustrations towards the Glazers, who were big influencers in the controversial European Super League.
Solskjaer has now broken his silence on the protests which saw United’s game postponed at the weekend.
And while the United boss is keen to “listen” to the fans, he thinks some supporters took it too far.
“It was a difficult day for us. Of course we wnted to play, to beat Liverpool for the fans,” Solskjaer said.
“Our job is getting good results on the pitch.
“But as I said before the game, we have to listen, to hear the fans’ voice.
“It’s everyone’s right to protest but it has to be in a civlisued manner. But unfortunately when you break in, when police officers are scarred for life, that’s a step too far.
“Then it’s a police matter, it’s not about showing your opinions anymore.”
Solskjaer also admits to having held recent conversations with the Glazers and received an apology.
And the United boss believes the club owners will begin holding better communication with supporters going ahead.
“I have been communicating with the owners. I have had a personal apology,” Solskjaer added.
“I know they have started communications with other than me.
“I have a good relationship. They do listen to the fans. They listen to me. I am sure there will be better communication.”
