Nottingham Forest to sign 30th player of season as Andre Ayew completes medical

Nottingham Forest are readying their 30th signing since returning to the Premier League after Andre Ayew completed a medical on Thursday afternoon (February 2nd).

The former West Ham United forward is understood to have passed routine tests ahead of a six-month deal that would see him reunite with former boss Steve Cooper. Ayew, 33, is expected to take the final spot in Forest's 25-man squad after leaving Qatari side Al Sadd, and therefore can be registered despite the closing of the transfer window.

The Ghana international, who rejected the advances of Everton to link up with Forest, was named Premier League Player of the Month in August 2015, boasting 21 goals in 89 matches but his appearance at The City Ground could leave Lewis O'Brien in exile for the rest of the season.

The former Huddersfield Town midfielder was snapped up for a cool £10million by Forest, after defeating the Terriers in the Championship play-off final, but has not started in the Premier League since a 4-0 defeat to Leicester City in October.

Pushed further down the pecking order by the arrival of Jonjo Shelvey, O'Brien was hoping to wind up at Blackburn Rovers for the rest of the campaign. However, issues regarding paperwork saw the Deadline Day deal blocked by the EFL.

Rovers do have seven days to appeal the decision with O'Brien otherwise facing six months on the sidelines. The midfielder would have been permitted to play in the domestic cup competitions but Forest were beaten by Manchester United over two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-final and were thrashed 4-1 by Blackpool in the Third Round of the FA Cup.

Enduring a rocky start to life back in the top flight, losing six of their opening eight Premier League fixtures, Forest have now amassed a four-point buffer between themselves and the relegation.

Cooper's men are currently enjoying a four-match unbeaten run and welcome relegation rivals Leeds United to Nottinghamshire on Sunday (January 5).
