- Forest will slip into the relegation zone on Monday after dropping crucial points
Steve Cooper confessed that his Nottingham Forest players were left ‘fuming’ after Yoane Wissa was deemed to be onside in the build-up to Brentford’s 94th minute winner in West London on Saturday afternoon.
Josh Dasilva slammed home a dramatic late winner to take crucial points off Forest, although Cooper’s players believe the goal should not have stood.
Referee Peter Bankes was referred to VAR to have a second look at a potential offside call moments before Dasilva fired his effort past Keylor Navas in the Forest net.
Wissa had been accused of interfering with play in Navas’ line of sight, however VAR deemed the Congolese forward to be onside at the crucial moment.
Having only seen the incident unfold in real time, Cooper had been expecting the referee to chalk off Dasilva’s late winner, but that turned out not to be the case.

Steve Cooper admitted it was a ‘tough one to take’ in Forest’s bid to stay in the Premier League
Speaking after the game, Cooper confessed that: ‘The guys are fuming, the subs and staff could see it live and we thought it would be the opposite.’
He continued: ‘I’m waiting to see the clear-cut image to make it ok. You can’t make it on judgement or assumption.
‘If he is offside, he would have been affecting with the goalkeeper’s vision. If it is onside, it is onside. I really hope at this stage of the game and the season that they didn’t make a call when they’re under pressure on assumption.
‘I hope I see it (an image where Wissa is definitely onside). It’s a massive call. It will make the headlines for you guys.’
As a result of the last minute loss against Brentford, Forest sit in 17th in the table on 30 points, although they will slip into the relegation zone on Monday after 18th and 19th place Leicester and Everton play each other, regardless of the outcome of that game.
‘It was always going to be a tiring game,’ Cooper continued. ‘The third in a week. Players with fatigue, hot day. It wasn’t a game with real quality. A game with moments. You see that with the goal we scored, it was a scramble.

‘I just think now is not the time to speak about anybody. It’s about real togetherness and sticking together. It’s a tough one to take.”
