N’Golo Kante was happy to stay at Chelsea last summer after the Blues rejected two bids for his services, and is looking to extend his spell at the club by agreeing a new contract over the next few months, according to reports. The Frenchman has played a crucial role for Thomas Tuchel’s side this season, producing a number of stunning performances on the way to Champions League glory at the end of last month.
Kante was Chelsea’s star man in both legs of their semi-final against Real Madrid and helped to shut out Manchester City in the final with another influential showing to clinch the honours.
The result saw the 30-year-old claim yet another trophy to add to his collection of two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
He completed the full 90 minutes in just five league matches after Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January, but the imperious nature of his performances in Europe have led to calls for a maiden Ballon D’Or nomination.
Kante is currently under contract until the summer of 2023 after signing a five-year extension back in November 2018.
He was reportedly the subject of interest from newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan a year ago, with the San Siro giants seeing an offer turned down for the midfielder’s services.

Chelsea were determined to keep hold of their star man and it seems as though the Blues will not have to worry about losing Kante any time soon.
The two parties are set to begin talks over a new contract in the near future, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
It is claimed that negotiations will get underway inside the next few months, with neither Chelsea nor Kante looking to rush proceedings as their relationship is very strong.
The player was keen to snub a move away from Stamford Bridge last summer and will be poised to spend at least another couple of seasons with the Blues upon signing his proposed new deal.
Tuchel is known to be a keen admirer of Kante, admitting last month that he wanted to manage the man from Paris at each of his previous clubs.
“He is the guy you need to win trophies,” the Chelsea boss told reporters. “That is why I am so, so happy he is here.
“I have dreamed about this player, fighting for this player at any club I was coaching at and now he is my player. For me he is an example, an unbelievable input for any team in the world. He will be key.
“N’Golo is a nice guy, almost a shy person. He is quiet, he likes his own quality time and he is not loud.
“I see him smile a lot, very shy and polite but I am so happy that players like him exist. It is a pleasure to watch.
“What he is doing with his mentality, a real helper. He always gives everything to help anybody on the pitch and such a nice, humble and quiet guy.”
Kante has played 218 matches for Chelsea since joining the Blues from Leicester City back in 2016, chipping in with 11 goals and 10 assists in the process.
