N’Golo Kante snubbed for PFA Player of the Year as nominees are announced
Chelsea star N'Golo Kante has been handed an incredible snub from his fellow professionals.
Kante, who helped Thomas Tuchel's men win the Champions League last weekend, has failed to make the shortlist for the Professional Footballers' Association 'Players' Player of the Year' award.
Four players from Manchester City have made the six man shortlist, including Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan.
But despite being the inspiration behind the Blues' stunning triumph over Pep Guardiola's side in Porto, Kante has not been nominated by his fellow peers.
Kante outplayed the likes of Gundogan, Foden and De Bruyne to win the man of the match award as the Blues were crowned kings of Europe for a second time.
The French World Cup winner, 30, was also instrumental in helping his side secure a top four finish this season and reach the FA Cup final.
The PFA said: "The PFA awards recognises the outstanding performers from every division and is voted for by the players."
The decision heaps further embarrassment on the PFA, after Sergio Aguero failed to win the men's 'Player of the Year' award during a glittering decade in English football that saw him become City's all-time record scorer and one of the greatest strikers in top flight history.
Should N'Golo Kante have been included on the PFA Player of the Year nominee list? Let us know in the comments section.
Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes and Tottenham's England captain Harry Kane make up the shortlist.
The six nominees for PFA 'Young Player of the Year' are Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Mason Greenwood, Mason Mount, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Foden, with the winners being announced on Sunday night.
Kante’s incredible rise in football started when he was bought by Leicester from Caen in 2015 for just over £5m, going on to help them list the Premier League title that season.
Moving the Chelsea the following year, becoming only the second player behind United legend Eric Cantona to win back-to-back top-flight titles with two different clubs.
The midfielder won the FA Cup with the Blues and the World Cup with France in 2018 before lifting the Europa League title the following year.
After being hit with injury in the 2019/20 campaign, Kante’s three consecutive Champions League Man of the Match performances helped them lift Ol’ Big Ears for the first time in nine years.
