N’Golo Kante is STILL expected to return in time for the World Cup despite suffering a hamstring injury relapse just over a month before the tournament… with France’s star midfielder likely to miss only two more weeks of action at Chelsea

  • France midfielder N’Golo Kante is expected to return in time for the World Cup
  • Kante’s hamstring injury relapsed this week casting doubt over his availability
  • But Sportsmail understands the 31-year-old will miss just two weeks as a result
  • Kante has been on the sidelines since Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Spurs in August
  • France have a handful of injuries ahead of their World Cup defence next month

N’Golo Kante’s injury relapse is not as serious as France and Chelsea first feared, and it is hoped the midfielder will return in time for next month’s World Cup in Qatar.

Kante, who first sustained his hamstring injury during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham in August, has been steadily building fitness in training at Cobham in an effort to return ahead of the major tournament.

But the 31-year-old has since suffered an aggravation to the injury, casting doubt over his availability ahead of Didier Deschamps’ squad selection in three weeks time.

The French midfielder suffered an injury relapse which cast doubt over his World Cup hopes

Despite the setback, Sportsmail understands that the midfielder is likely to miss approximately two more weeks of action at Chelsea.

Graham Potter is required to navigate a congested run of fixtures over the next fortnight, with Chelsea set to face Aston Villa, Brentford, Manchester United, RB Salzburg and Brighton in the next 14 days.

Evading any further relapses, Kante is expected to make his return either against Potter’s former club at the Amex or during Chelsea’s next match against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on November 2.

Excluding the Blues star, France have a glut of additional injury problems ahead of their World Cup defence in Qatar next month.

Paul Pogba has yet to feature for Juventus this season as a result of his long-term meniscus injury, and defenders Lucas Hernandez, Lucas Digne and Presnel Kimpembe also remain doubts for the tournament.

Both Pogba and Kimpembe are expected to return at the end of the month.
