Neymar’s damning Champions League stats laid bare after embarrassing PSG defeat
Neymar added to his damning Champions League stats as PSG were dumped out of the competition by Real Madrid.
The Brazil international returned to Mauricio Pochettino's starting line-up for the second-leg at the Santiago Bernabeu after coming back from injury as a substitute in the reverse fixture last month.
He was heavily involved in their European campaign at the start of the season before his lengthy spell on the sidelines began.
However, his impact had been very minimal, with just one assist prior to kick-off on Wednesday evening.
In fact, that was his only contribution in his previous eight Champions League appearances.
You have to go back to December 2020 to find his last goal in the competition.
It was then that he scored a hat-trick against Turkey's Istanbul Basaksehir in that year's group stages.
His recent record is out of character as the Champions League has mostly been a happy hunting ground for the 30-year-old.
Where would you rank Neymar nowadays? Let us know in the comments section.
In 40 UCL appearances for Barcelona he registered 21 goals and 19 assists.
That form carried on after his record-breaking £200million move from Spain to France in 2017.
In the four seasons prior to this campaign he netted 20 times and picked up 12 assists in 29 European matches for PSG.
But he has not been able to keep it up in recent months.
Despite that, he has still provided more assists than any other player since his Champions League debut in September 2013.
And he added to that tally as he set up Kylian Mbappe for his first-half strike on Wednesday evening.
It was the seventh time he has assisted the Frenchman, the most for a single team-mate in the competition's history.
However, Real hit back with three goals to win 3-2 on aggregate.
