Once tipped to become the next Paul Pogba due to his outrageous skill and talent as a youngster, it has been quite the journey for Bobby Duncan since leaving Liverpool.
As the cousin of Steven Gerrard, surely Anfield could only ever be the destination for the young midfielder. However, an acrimonious exit plagued by accusations of bullying from the club would follow in 2019.
And Duncan has found himself a new club – Spanish third division side Real Balompedica Linense – signing a three-year deal after leaving Derby this summer. It is the latest move as the 21-year-old looks to reinvigorate his career after his Liverpool departure.

After leaving Merseyside for Fiorentina, a transfer that was facilitated by his agent Said Rubie and Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito, Duncan failed to make an impression and moved to Derby a year later in 2020. Much like Pogba at Manchester United who left for Serie A despite being at an elite club, there was a huge fanfare that Duncan could make a similar impact.
"Soon we will see Fiorentina in order to find the best Italian school for him and to give him serenity in this acclimatization phase,' Morabito said. "He may be the new Pogba. Fiorentina has made a deal and Liverpool have lost one of the five best English products in the recent history of the Premier League."
That failed to transpire, though, after Duncan left just a year later for Derby where he hoped some time in the Championship could bolster his chances at first-team football. Again, this turned out not to be the case and he spent much of his time in the academy – even despite their mammoth troubles last season under Wayne Rooney.
Now finding himself at Andalusian club Real Balompedica Linense, it would take a miracle for Duncan to reach the heights that were promised to him at a young age.
