Newport County have held talks with former Huddersfield technical director David Webb about their vacant managerial position.

The League Two side are searching for a new manager after parting with James Rowberry and his assistant Carl Serrant following a poor start to the season which has left them 18th and just three points clear of the relegation zone after 13 games.

And Webb, who has worked under the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter, is being considered by the Welsh side, supported by an experienced coach, having emerged as a target for clubs looking to benefit from his wider experience and understanding of the game and clubs along with his coaching background.

Webb began coaching in Crystal Palace and then Tottenham’s academy, discovering Wilfried Zaha for the Selhurst Park club, before securing senior roles at Millwall and Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.

In 2010 he moved into recruitment at Southampton, Bournemouth and then Spurs before landing technical director positions at Ostersund, where he worked with Potter, and Huddersfield.

Webb was part of Bournemouth’s staff when the club were promoted to the Premier League in 2015 and a pivotal figure in key signings such as Callum Wilson as their head of first team recruitment.

Webb spent almost two seasons back at Spurs after being reunited with Pochettino who he previously worked with at Southampton, helping bring the likes of Heung-min Son to the club in his role as head of elite potential identification.

Webb also tried to bring Emile Smith Rowe to Spurs but was later successful in landing him on loan while at Huddersfield.

Since leaving the Terriers, Webb has been subject of interest from Gillingham and Swedish club Malmo when they have been looking for managers and also international teams.
