Newcastle’s new Saudi owners have already informed Leicester they plan to bid for Wesley Fofana, reports in France claim. The Magpies finally confirmed last week that the £305million deal, backed by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, had received Premier League approval to bring Mike Ashley’s dismal 14-year reign on Tyneside to a dramatic end.

Co-owner Amanda Staveley has already promised fans that the club’s new board are ready to invest heavily in order to drive Newcastle to their former heights and beyond.

The Saudi-backed consortium are expected to relieve Steve Bruce from his duties in due course, potentially ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham.

While Staveley also explained that decisions regarding managerial staff and players will not necessarily be made anytime soon, the club have already been linked with a whole host of new signings.

Mauro Icardi, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Clement Lenglet and Eric Bailly are among those to have been tipped to move to St James’ Park.

However, RMC Sport are now reporting that the Saudis have made Leicester defender Fofana one of their main priorities.

The French outlet goes as far as saying talks have already been held with the player’s entourage.

Furthermore, Newcastle are said to have informed the Foxes to expect an official offer in due course.

Fofana has not played this season after suffering a serious leg injury in pre-season against Villarreal at the King Power Stadium.

The 20-year-old, who only signed from St-Etienne for £36.5million back in 2020, is not expected to return to action until the New Year after suffering a fractured fibula and medial ligament damage.

There has been some suggestion that players are being linked with moves to Newcastle via their agents in order to earn new contracts at their current club.

Leicester simply have no plans to sell Fofana anytime soon after a sensational debut campaign in England.

Brendan Rodgers was forced to dip into the market to sign cover for Fofana as he opted to snap up Jannik Vestergaard from Southampton.

One player that is expected to sign for Newcastle though is Burnley’s James Tarkowski.

The Clarets centre-back is out of contract at Turf Moor at the end of the season, meaning he is free to speak with other clubs come January.

Newcastle are expected to invest heavily from the get-go but they will need to work within the limitations of Financial Fair Play.

That will also involve selling a number of their players as opposed to instantly splashing big money on multiple stars.
