Newcastle United’s sudden takeover has fans salivating over what could become of the club given their new riches. Confirmation was announced on Thursday, and the new owners will look to back the club in whatever way possible. And with Paulo Fonseca linked with the job that Steve Bruce could be fired from in days to come, Express Sport takes a look at a new-found XI the former Roma manager could assemble in the north east.

Goalkeeper: Dubravka

Newcastle’s usual number one choice is out with injury, but the Slovakian is usually a trusted pair of hands in the Newcastle net.

Offering a reassurance, experience that is needed in times of uncertainty, Fonseca would be able to count upon Dubravka.

And with a new look defence in front of him, there is much to be said for stability at St James Park.

Defence: Tarkowski, Lascelles, Mancini

Recent reports have suggested that James Tarkowski could be the first big signing as part of the takeover, with the Burnley man’s contract up at the end of the season.

The centre-back will be available for a cut-price fee in January, whilst Jamaal Lascelles could play alongside him.

And with their newfound wealth, Fonseca could be willing to splash on Gianluca Mancini who he managed at Roma – though it could take a fee upwards of £40million to secure their man.

Midfield: Ritchie, Lingard, Willock, Spinazzola

Matt Ritchie is one of just two players to have played every single minute in the Premier League so far this season at St James’ Park and his know-how could be vital for Fonseca should he be appointed.

Jesse Lingard could also join as his playing time at Manchester United suffers, alongside fan favourite Joe Willock.

And in what would be the biggest blockbuster signing of the side, Leonardo Spinazzola could also be of interest following his superb performances at Euro 2020.

Attack: Saint-Maximin, Wilson, Kluivert

Allan Saint-Maximin is the hero of St James Park, and with quality players surrounding him he could become a real force in the north east if he isn’t already.

Callum Wilson would inevitably fire more with better service upon the arrivals of Spinazzola and Lingard.

And the second coming of a Dutchman named Kluivert- following Patrick’s stint in Newcastle back in 2005 – would be heralded should son Justin join after failing to find a starting spot at the Studio Olimpico.
