Newcastle have been urged to make a double signing in the January transfer window and bring both Leandro Trossard and Christian Pulisic to St James’ Park. Eddie Howe’s side have been the Premier League’s surprise package this season, and sit inside the top four at the World Cup break.
The Magpies have largely had to be without Allan Saint-Maximin this campaign due to injury and in his absence, Howe has called upon the likes of Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy in the wide areas who have stepped up and performed.
The Toon boss could look to the January window in an attempt to bolster his strength in depth and have been linked with several big-money moves following their Saudi Arabian takeover.
Both Trossard and Pulisic have been linked with moves up north as the Brighton man’s impressive performances may have earned him a transfer to a team with Champions League aspirations, while the USA World Cup star may leave Stamford Bridge in search of more playing time. Former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that Newcastle should prioritise a move for the Belgian, but has tipped Howe’s side to move for both players.

“I would go for Trossard,” Robinson told Football Insider. “He has been brilliant this season. I have watched him close-hand twice this season when doing the Brighton games and I was really, really impressed. I do not see why Newcastle could not take both Trossard and Pulisic into the squad. They would both enhance the squad. If it was to be one or the other I’d go for Trossard though.”
Pulisic scored the only goal as the USA defeated Iran 1-0 in their final group stage game in Qatar and qualified for the knock-out stages, and could be available for £26million in January. Italian outlet TuttoJuve claims that a fee between £26m and £30m could tempt the Blues into a sale, having struggled to leave his mark since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

Trossard has scored seven goals in 14 league games this season, and his performances especially against the traditional top-six clubs has alerted them ahead of a potential transfer.
His contract at the Seagulls expires at the end of the season, but the club do have an option to extend his deal and hope that he will put pen to paper on an extension, as talks have begun according to boss Roberto De Zerbi.
“For sure I hope and I would like Trossard to sign a new contract,” De Zerbi said after Alexis Mac Allister signed a new deal at the club. “But for the moment we have spoken about this with the club.”
