Newcastle have reportedly settled on their top pick for the January transfer window as Eddie Howe begins to plan for the future. Howe was missing from the dugout in his first game as Newcastle boss after testing positive for coronavirus.
He was unable to give Newcastle their first league win of the season in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Brentford on Saturday.
But it’s the first time Newcastle have managed to score three goals this season as Howe adopted an attack-minded formation.
They were punished by a lethal Brentford line-up though, who have impressed in their debut Premier League campaign.
There were some positives for the Magpies though with Howe being rewarded with his trust in Joelinton.

Newcastle are still in need of a win desperately though to starve off any threat of relegation.
They face a busy festive period which could prove crucial in the end-of-season hopes.
And it appears as though plans are already being put in place for transfer targets in January.
According to the Daily Mail, Howe wants new defenders as well as a striker to come in.
DON’T MISS
The report adds that a midfielder is top of his wishlist though and they’ve supposedly settled on Tottenham’s Harry Winks.
It is claimed that Winks is the ‘prime January target’ with Howe keen to bring in more creativity into midfield.
A director of football is expected to be hired at Newcastle in the very near future.
Marc Overmars had been touted as their top target, but he’s reportedly decided to stay at Ajax.
Talks have been taking place with Michael Emenalo, who left Monaco in 2019.
And Howe insists he would support the role being filled to give Newcastle the best chance in the transfer window.
“It’s essential at the top level in the game that you have a structure that works for your club and you have people in positions that can help you manage and all the various branches that football clubs need to be run to their best of their ability,” Howe said.
“It’s not my decision what happens with the structure above me here and it’s not my right to make that call but it’s something that if it did happen, I would embrace.”
