Newcastle have received a huge boost in their hopes of signing Bruno Guimaraes as the midfielder is reportedly ‘pushing’ his agents to force through a move to St James’ Park. Newcastle have been linked with a host of players throughout the January transfer window with two signings already made.
Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier have joined Eddie Howe’s squad, but the Newcastle boss has repeatedly stated that he wants more signings.
At least one central defender is expected to sign with the likes of Sven Botman, Diego Carlos and James Tarkowski all linked.
There has been no movement though on a centre-back joining in the final few days of the transfer window.
And Newcastle’s attention now appears to have switched to signing Guimaraes from Lyon.

Reports this week suggested that a £30million fee had been agreed with Lyon for Guimaraes to join Newcastle.
Lyon have since issued an angry response, insisting no agreement is in place.
A club statement read: “Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media reporting an agreement between Newcastle and OL for the transfer of Brazilian international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
DON’T MISS
“In this transfer window period where the slightest rumour is often presented as reality, Olympique Lyonnais reminds that only information officially released by the club is to be taken into consideration.”
While Lyon insist there is no agreement in place as of yet, it does appear as though Guimaraes will eventually arrive on Tyneside.
According to the Chronicle, Guimaraes still has a medical booked in for Friday to complete his move.
Given the fact Guimaraes is currently on international duty with Brazil, it is claimed that medical will have to take place in South America.

And the report adds that the 24-year-old is personally intervening in negotiations by demanding his agents to “push through a move”.
The final sticking point appears to be the fee and how the payment will be structured.
Newcastle aren’t the only team interested in Guimaraes though with both Juventus and Arsenal monitoring his situation.
It is suggested that Newcastle’s best chance of signing him would be now as other clubs competing in Europe could enter the fray in the summer.
