Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin has hinted he could leave the club if they are relegated from the Premier League this season. Saint-Maximin has been one of the shining lights for Newcastle in what has been a difficult campaign for the Magpies.

The 24-year-old has already surpassed his previous best figures of three goals in a Premier League season with five in the current campaign.

But Saint-Maximin has now revealed that he will wait to see what happens this season before deciding on his future at the club.

“I really, really love the club and I really love the supporters for everything they give to me, but you always have to make a choice about your dream and what you want to achieve,” Saint-Maxmin told The Times.

“If I can achieve my dream and my goal in Newcastle, I will stay for sure, but if I cannot, you need to think too about yourself, so we will see after this season what is to happen.”

Saint-Maximin joined Newcastle in 2019 from Ligue 1 side Nice and has become a mainstay in the starting XI at the club.

Newcastle are currently lurking dangerously in 18th in the Premier League table, but are slowly beginning to turn their fortunes around under new boss Eddie Howe.

In the final game before the winter break, Newcastle picked up a 1-0 win on the road against Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds thanks to Jonjo Shelvey’s 75th minute free-kick.

The result leaves the Magpies just one point adrift of Dean Smith’s Norwich in 17th with a game in hand on their relegation rivals.

The win followed a 1-1 draw with Watford in their outing before Leeds and a point against Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United in the game before that.

Saint-Maximin scored in both of those contests and the winger will want to return from the Premier League winter break in similar goalscoring form.

The Magpies have already added Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood to their ranks this month and more arrivals look set to follow suit.

According to The Telegraph, the club are closing in on a triple swoop before the transfer window shuts its door until the summer early next week.

Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah, Brighton defender Dan Burn and Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes are all reportedly close to completing moves to St. James Park.

Newcastle will play host to Everton on February 8 in their first game back after the winter break.
