Newcastle United are interested in signing Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette in January, according to reports. Lacazette is out of contract at the end of the season. The Frenchman made his first Premier League start of the campaign in Friday’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa at the Emirates.
The Saudi Arabian-backed takeover is set to see Newcastle spend big as early as the January transfer window.
A number of players have been linked with the Magpies already following the acquisition of the St James’ Park club.
The first port of call for the new owners is to bring in a new head coach following the departure of Steve Bruce in midweek.
But attention will quickly turn to who can be brought in in the winter window.
And the Daily Star claims Lacazette is one player on the club’s radar.
However, West Ham are also interested in signing the former Lyon man.
The Star says Lacazette has no intention of extending his current contract at Arsenal.
Arsenal would let the 30-year-old leave at the right price and Newcastle believe he is a realistic signing.

However, Lacazette is happy living in London and West Ham have registered their interest in the player.
Clubs in Serie A and La Liga are also keeping an eye on the striker’s situation.
Lacazette scored a stoppage-time equaliser for Arsenal in last Monday’s 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace.
In the build up to the victory over Villa, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insisted there is currently no plan for Lacazette to leave in January.
“Big players running down their contracts is happening more than probably ever before,” Arteta said.
“There is a reason for this and we are not the only club facing these kind of situations after everything else we have had to do over the past 18 months.
“We just have to try to deal with the issues we face in the best possible way, but there are no plans for Laca to leave us in January.
“He is our player and I will continue to treat him like everyone else, no matter how long he has left on his contract, because that’s what he deserves.”
Arteta says Lacazette’s commitment has remained despite his contract coming towards an end.
“I never had any doubts that Laca would continue to give us everything,” he added.
“If I did, I probably would have suggested doing something different with him in the summer.
“It’s not the case with Laca that he cannot find his motivation and is only interested in his financial future.
“He has shown that every single day since I have been here and that’s why he is still a really important player for us.
“We have to accept his situation and see what will be the best option for everyone at the end of the season. Anything is possible.”
