Newcastle plot last-minute £25million move for Wolves captain Conor Coady
Newcastle are weighing up a late big-money bid for Wolves star Conor Coady.
Eddie Howe is frantically trying to bolster his squad, and strengthening the Toon's leaky backline before the window closes is the top priority.
It's understood the Premier League strugglers are willing to pay in excess of £25million to sign the England international.
Howe's recruitment team have been scouring Europe for top defensive talent.
However, the ex-Bournemouth boss is still eager to bring in as much proven Premier League quality as possible.
Wolves are under no pressure to sell and club captain Coady, 28, is a hugely influential and popular figure at the club.
But with the Black Country outfit comfortably mid-table, Molineux bigwigs are prepared to take a pragmatic view.
Wolves will only sanction his departure if an offer is submitted by Newcastle that's too good to turn down.
Ex-Liverpool youth Coady has been at Wolves since 2015 and his current contract runs until 2025.

Another target at the back for Newcastle remains Issa Diop, with the West Ham defender on the Magpies' radar.
However, West Ham are still trying to bolster their own backline, with talks ongoing over Marseille's Duje Caleta-Car.
The Hammers would still be a little short at the back, though, due to Angelo Ogbonna's season-ending knee injury, so it is unlikely Diop will be allowed to go unless something dramatic changes or Newcastle splash the cash.
