Newcastle look to appoint Eddie Howe’s nephew Andy into a leading recruitment position within the new Magpies setup

Newcastle want to appoint head coach Eddie Howe’s nephew – Andy – into a leading recruitment position, Sportsmail has learned. 

Andy Howe, who worked under his uncle at Bournemouth as the club’s head of first team domestic player scouting, is leaving the Championship high-fliers and is expected to rejoin his family member on Tyneside.

Talks over a move to Newcastle are understood to be at an advanced stage and the expectancy is that Andy Howe will be appointed imminently.

Howe announced his departure from Bournemouth on social media over the weekend, he wrote: ‘After an amazing 10 years within Bournemouth’s recruitment department, I’ve decided it’s time for my next challenge.

‘As a Bournemouth lad, lad and a Bournemouth supporter this club has been a part of my life from the very beginning and will always hold a special place in my heart. 

‘The 10 years have flown by but what a 10 years it has been!! The journey has been incredible and like everyone else I’m proud to have played a part in that journey.

‘I want to thank everyone within the football club from past to present but more importantly to wish the club continued success.’

The squad are now in Saudi Arabia for a training camp with next match not until February 8

Newcastle are 18th in the Premier League standings after their 1-0 victory away to Leeds at the weekend, thanks to a goal from Jonjo Shelvey.

They are a point from safety and have a game in hand on 17th-place Norwich. 

Newcastle headed out to Saudi Arabia on Sunday for a training camp, with their next match not until February 8 against Everton.
