Newcastle flop ‘closing in on move to Real’ – and fans are absolutely astounded
Real Madrid look set to sign Newcastle flop Joselu on a season-long loan from Espanyol.
Joselu was less than impressive in the north east – but he could be calling the Bernabeu home after a series of solid performances. Despite Espanyol succumbing to the drop this season, Joselu netted 16 goals in 32 games.
Madrid are keen to provide some cover and competition for Karim Benzema, whose current deputy Mariano Diaz looks set to leave this summer. According to AS, Madrid want to bring in two players: a young striker to develop and an older striker who can deliver at a low cost.

"Joselu…scoring for Spain and moving to Madrid after looking like a jigsaw in the box for us," a second joked. While a third added: "Madness when you think about it!"
"Madness. Good luck to him and well deserved if it happens," a fourth added. And another said: "Julian Faubert's agent is still in work then…"

Joselu has already spent time at Los Blancos – and he spent two seasons with Real Madrid Castilla, the club's reserve team, from 2010 to 2012. Amazingly, Joselu made two senior appearances, netting in both games over the span of 18 minutes.
It was Jose Mourinho that handed him his debut, trusting him alongside stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, and Gonzalo Higuain.
Joselu left Newcastle in 2019, joining Deportivo Alaves before he moved to Espanyol last summer.
