Newcastle are reportedly set to flex their muscles by poaching Manchester United head of young recruitment David Harrison. The Magpies were taken over by a mega-rich Saudi-led consortium in the autumn of 2021 and have climbed to fifth in the Premier League table this season.
Newcastle have been transformed since their takeover and have impressed on the pitch this season after avoiding relegation to the Championship last time out. The north east giants have brought in a whole host of players, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope helping the team rise up the standings.
But the Magpies have now turned their attentions to an off-field appointment and are in advanced talks with Harrison to become their new head of emerging talent, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Harrison is set to work for the first-team and oversee academy signings worldwide.
Harrison has worked for the Red Devils since January 2017 after joining the club from arch-rivals Manchester City, where he was tasked with overseeing the club’s European scouting network. He previously headed up the Leeds recruitment team and played for Arsenal from 1979 to 1982.

Newcastle have put a new scouting structure in place since Dan Ashworth moved to the club from Brighton last summer, with the Tynesiders reportedly looking to appoint up to seven international scouts.
And last week, manager Eddie Howe said: “Your football club’s success depends on recruitment. It’s that important. Who you bring into your football club really dictates what happens afterwards. I’m not involved in the structure of how we set up those departments. That’s other people’s jobs, but I’ll certainly welcome any changes that are positive for what we do.”

Newcastle are set to host the Red Devils in their next match at the start of next month as the Magpies desperately attempt to end the season strongly and secure a place in next season’s Champions League. Howe’s team have suffered a poor run of form since the end of last year and won just one of their eight Premier League matches between New Year’s Eve and mid-March.
But Newcastle secured back-to-back victories over Wolves and Nottingham Forest before the international break and will fancy their chances of returning to Europe’s top tier club competition for the first time since the 2002/03 campaign, despite facing tough trips to Brentford and Aston Villa in April ahead of clashes with Tottenham and Everton.
