Eddie Howe’s appointment as Newcastle United manager has brought fresh life into the newly-rich north east side, with fans expecting a fast-flowing brand of football alongside an influx of new signings. And if reports are to be believed, the ex-Bournemouth boss will look to bring in a proven Premier League contingent over foreign imports.

Howe, 43, was appointed as Newcastle boss after an 18-month hiatus from football management.

Having built a reputation as Bournemouth boss after leading the side from League Two to the riches of the Premier League in just seven seasons, Howe became hot property given his unemployed status.

Newcastle’s increased budget means they have become an attractive proposition for many managers.

Howe’s services were sought after by Magpies bosses following their takeover, with the Amersham-born manager taking the reins earlier this month.

And according to the Daily Mirror, Howe’s transfer plan will be to sign proven Premier League players given Newcastle’s poor league position.

The report states that despite many of Europe’s stars being linked with a move to St James’ Park over the last month, there is a need to bring in players to address the club’s precarious league status.

Sources close to Newcastle believe that Howe’s first actions will be to ensure survival before kicking on upon their guaranteed place in next season’s edition of the league.

Players who are heading into the last six months of their contract are of considerable interest to Howe given the small amount of money it would take to prise them from their clubs.

James Tarkowski is supposedly one of those of interest.

The Burnley defender, 28, has refused to sign a new deal at Turf Moor as he enters the peak of his career.

He moved to Burnley in 2016 from Brentford for £6million and earned an England cap in 2018.

But with his international career yet to take off, Tarkowski could be interested in a move to Newcastle given the other targets they could sign.

Jesse Lingard could also be a target for the Magpies, with the England midfielder reportedly livid at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s broken promises.

Lingard has yet to play a prominent role at Old Trafford despite promises that he could play more regularly.

And with just seven months left on his contract, a cut-price deal could be made to bring the Warrington-born maestro to the north east.
