Newcastle boss Eddie Howe gives furious hairdryers to players who sit on balls
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe hates his players sitting on footballs in training and gives out furious hairdryer treatments to any player that does.
That is according to former Bournemouth midfielder Jack Wilshere, who made 27 appearances under Howe while on loan at the Cherries from Arsenal.
Wilshere appeared on talkSPORT on Tuesday and discussed Fabio Capello's rules for England players with former Three Lions striker Darren Bent.
Bent explained how Capello would not allow his players to wear shorts outside of training or sit on footballs during sessions during his five years as the England manager between 2007 and 2012.
"I've had a few managers like that," revealed Wilshere, "Eddie Howe was like that, wouldn't let you sit on a football."
When asked if he knew why this was, Wilshere added: “I don’t know really, I remember my first day I sat on a ball and the lads were like ‘get up, get up, get up!’
“I was like, ‘why?’ and they were like, ‘you’re not allowed to!’”
Wilshere spent the 2016/17 season playing under Howe at Bournemouth after arriving on a season-long loan spell from Arsenal.
Despite the early awkwardness, Wilshere had a strong relationship with Howe and has backed him to be successful at St. James' Park after he was appointed Steve Bruce's successor on Monday.
Will Eddie Howe keep Newcastle United in the Premier League? Let us know in the comments section below.
“I worked with him at a club that I see now are quite similar to Newcastle – not in terms of the size of the club, but in terms of the players,” Wilshere said.
“Newcastle have got a few ex-Bournemouth players and that is what Eddie does, he gets the best out of those types of players, gets them going and he gets the fans on side.
“He’s a great manager.
“I think he deserves a chance. If he goes in and does really well, in a few years they could be pushing the top six, which I think he can do.
“When I played under him at Bournemouth we arguably had a worse squad and we finished ninth, so he can definitely do that.
“It’s down to him when he gets that chance to take them to the next level.”
Howe takes his place in the Newcastle dugout with the Magpies sitting second bottom of the Premier League as the only side without a win after 11 matches.
The club's new owners are reportedly set to give Howe a £50million budget in January, with the 43-year-old also expected to use the loan market to strengthen his squad.
