Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are tracking Leeds star Cody Drameh

Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are tracking Leeds youngster Cody Drameh as they target January move for the England Under 21 full-back after he starred on loan at Cardiff last season

  • Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund want to sign Leeds young star Cody Drameh
  • The full-back has only made two starts for Jess Marsch’s side this season
  • Drameh was on loan at Cardiff last season and named their Player of the Year

Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are keeping tabs on Leeds youngster Cody Drameh ahead of the January transfer window.

England under-21 full back Drameh joined Leeds from Fulham last summer and spent the second half of the season on loan at Cardiff.

He made such an impression for the Welsh club that he was named both their young player and player of the season after making just 22 appearances.

Cody Drameh is the subject of interest from both Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund and they could swoop in January

The full-back joined from Fulham in 2021 but has only made two starts for Leeds this season

That successful spell has not been enough to earn him much game-time back at Elland Road, where Drameh has the more experienced duo, summer signing Rasmus Kristensen and Luke Ayling, ahead of him and has made just two starts this season.

Newcastle and Dortmund are among the clubs who have now been alerted to the situation of 20 year-old Drameh, who is predominantly a right back but has also played on the left.

Newcastle spent deadline day trying to land West Ham’s young right back youngster Harrison Ashby but were unable to get a deal over the line.

Drameh spent last season on loan at Cardiff City and was named their Player of the Year

They retain an interest in Ashby but Drameh also fits the profile they are looking for as a player who would not take up one of the slots in their 25-man Premier League squad due to his age.

Newcastle currently have Kieran Trippier as their first-choice right back but have doubts over the long-term future of Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth is out for the season with a knee injury.

Dortmund, meanwhile, are no strangers to the English market and, in particular, snapping up young talents and accelerating their development by offering them a platform to perform at first-team level.

Borussia Dortmund have made a success of signing young English stars like Jude Bellingham

Now Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho was one of their big recent success stories who they signed from Manchester City before he had made his professional debut.

England star Jude Bellingham has developed into one of the biggest talents in Europe after joining Dortmund from Birmingham aged 17 in 2020.

Dortmund also have high hopes for England under-19 winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who they also signed from City in 2020.
