Newcastle among world’s highest-earners thanks to Saudi owners worth £320bn

Newcastle United are now among the highest-earning clubs in world football following their high-profile takeover by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

The North East outfit have been named in the final place of the top 20, which includes 11 Premier League clubs with Manchester City leading the way ahead of Real Madrid.

Newcastle are back in the mix having been bought out by PIF, who one 80% of the club with the following 20% split between RB Sports & Media and PCP Capital Partners.

With Newcastle already splashing £180million on new players Deloitte Football Money League has reported revenues of £185m.

Ahead of them from the Premier League are City (£640m), Liverpool (£613m), Manchester United (£602m), Chelsea (£497m), Tottenham (£457m), Arsenal (£379m), West Ham (£263m), Leicester (£220m), (Leeds £195m) and Everton (£186m).

Zal Udwadia, the assistant director of Deloitte’s Sport Business Group, said of Newcastle's position: "It’s hugely significant."

"Eleven of the 20 clubs are from the Premier League and I think it’s only a matter of time until we see all 20 in the top 30.

"Newcastle have been a powerhouse, they’re a one-club city and investment will only trigger further growth."

Without breaking the bank, Eddie Howe has overseen a huge turnaround in performances at St James Park with the club fourth in the league after 19 fixtures.

Furthermore, Newcastle have lost only once and won 10 of their matches so far, having lost 10 games at the same stage of last season.

When asked about a top-four place following a blistering start to the season, Howe said: "It’s in our hands.

"I’d like to think we’re prepared for what’s coming at us. I’d like to think the team are ready to play in different ways and I don’t mean just system-wise.

“I’m pretty sure the second half of the season will be tougher but that’s healthy. We’re confident; we’ll embrace the challenge."

Next up for Newcastle is a trip to take on Crystal Palace, before their EFL Cup semi-final ties against Southampton.
