Eddie Howe has been desperate to bring in a striker to add firewpower to his frontline

They have been talking to Watford regarding a £30m deal for Joao Pedro but a hamstring injury to Callum Wilson has made them focus once again on Isak who is regarded as one of the brightest forward prospects in Europe.

The 22-year old is 6ft 4ins tall but quick and has 37 caps for Sweden.

He has previously been courted by Arsenal, Everton and Juventus but is attracted by the new project at Newcastle.

Howe continues to be backed by the riches of the new Saudi owners at Newcastle

The Swedish international will also be the most expensive sale in the history of the Spanish side.

Isak will join Callum Wilson and Chris Wood as the senior forward options at St James’ Park, as Newcastle look to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

They have five points from three games after a win against Nottingham Forest and draws against Man City and Brighton.
