Newcastle United’s new chairman has spoken for the first time after the Saudi Arabian-backed £300million takeover of the club was completed. Mike Ashley has now formally given up the club after 14 tumultuous years.
His Excellency Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Governor of the Public Investment Fund, will become the club’s new Non-Executive Chairman. Amanda Staveley will sit on the club’s board and Jamie Rueben will become a director.
In a statement, Al-Rumayyan said: “We are extremely proud to become the new owners of Newcastle United, one of the most famous clubs in English football.
“We thank the Newcastle fans for their tremendously loyal support over the years and we are excited to work together with them.”
