Neville insists Lingard should have left in the summer despite recent heroics
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes Jesse Lingard should have left Manchester United in the summer despite his last-minute winner for the Red Devils on Sunday.
The 28-year-old was sent on loan to West Ham in January and took the London Stadium by storm, registering nine goals and four assists in just 16 Premier League matches.
Lingard was once again the central figure at the London Stadium on Sunday, with his 89th-minute goal enough for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to claim all three points in a 2-1 win.
In an astonishing finale, David De Gea denied Mark Noble from the penalty spot with what was virtually the final kick of the game.
Despite coming off the bench to win the game for Man Utd, former Red Devil Gary Neville believes Lingard should still have made a summer move away from the club: "I thought Jesse should have left Manchester United," said Neville speaking on his podcast.
He added: "I said that a few weeks ago because I thought that he should play every single week.
"He's good enough to play football at the top level every single week and he's going to be living off moments for Manchester United."

The goal was the perfect way to end a frustrating week for the former West Ham-man. Lingard was heavily criticised for his role in BSC Young Boys' late winner in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
A nonchalant back-pass was cut out by Theoson Siebatcheu who fired a first-time finish past De Gea.
But Neville was quick to highlight the resilience from Lingard to put that behind him and come up with a match-winning goal:
"He's got good character, he's a very good player and I feel he should be playing 40-45 games a season.
“He won't get that at United in terms of 90-minute starts but he's one of those players that I do feel United will benefit from having.
“I just thought for Jesse himself, he should've left. United could be a better team with someone like Lingard in it.”
