Netherlands vs Ukraine viewers react to Tyldesley and McCoist’s commentary
Football fans were delighted to hear Clive Tyldesley and Ally McCoist on commentary for ITV's coverage of the Euro 2020 group game between the Netherlands and Ukraine.
Tyldesley was replaced by Sam Matterface as ITV's lead commentator last year after 22 years in the role, but he has remained part of the broadcaster's coverage for the Euros.
Tyldesley has been joined by co-commentator McCoist, who he worked with for Amazon Prime during the most recent Premier League season.
Viewers were happy to hear the duo on commentary duty for the Group C clash, with one writing on Twitter: "Clive Tyldesley & Ally McCoist are the football commentary dream team."
"I'd listen to Tyldesley and McCoist commentate on the Boat Race, Bake Off, Crufts, owt," added another.
"Clive Tyldesley and Ally McCoist are by far the best commentators at the Euros and it ain't close", wrote a third.
"McCoist and Tyldesley commentating a Netherlands game at a major tournament, I'm in heaven."
"Tyldesley and McCoist. The famous orange of the Netherlands. Lovely looking evening in Amsterdam. That'll do me."
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph ahead of the Euros, Tyldesley opened up about his decision to stay with ITV to commentate on the tournament following his demotion.
He said: "I could have stormed out, but I thought, no I quite fancy commentating on France versus Italy.
"No more England, so it will be a slightly strange thing.
"Once the decision has been taken you have to absorb it, realise it's not the end of the world. It's nice if you're missed a little bit.
"I don't think ITV replaced me with a younger man for the sake of that, I think they replaced me with a different kind of commentator.
"And even though I was shocked by the decision and didn't agree with it, I can accept it, because Sam commentates in a different way."
