Nemanja Vidic leaves Rio Ferdinand in stitches at Ed Woodward dig

Nemanja Vidic left former team-mate Rio Ferdinand in stitches after admitting to one regret he has about his Manchester United career. The defensive pairing recently reunited on Vibe with FIVE, and former Red Devils executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was the topic of jokes.

Vidic and Ferdinand played together at Old Trafford for nine years, forming arguably the most formidable centre-back partnership in Premier League history.

After winning five Premier League titles and one Champions League together at Old Trafford, they both departed in 2014, one year after Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

After hanging up their boots, the duo remained friends and reunited on Ferdinand’s podcast this week to discuss Vidic’s career and life after football.

And Ferdinand couldn’t contain his laughter when Vidic claimed that his only regret was Woodward arriving just a year before his exit.

Vidic joked on the Vibe with FIVE podcast: “The only thing I have as a regret is that I didn’t have Ed Woodward in my time.”

As the host laughed at the comment, Vidic asked: “Why are you laughing?”

Ferdinand answered: “Because of money. You’re talking money and contracts.”

Vidic started laughing as well before high-fiving his former team-mate, continuing: “You know what I am talking about. But do I regret it?

“David Gill and Fergie were at the club, trying to set up the levels of salaries, structure — what they have now, what they are going to get, what you have to do to get there.

“So if you ask me for regrets… I think Woodward had a lot of time to bring the club in the right direction.

“I think Richard Arnold is doing well in a short period of time, bringing in Erik ten Hag and certain things they did in the last six months, one year is showing the club is strong. I see some improvement.”

Vidic’s remark was a cheeky jibe at Woodward’s tendency to hand out huge contracts throughout his disastrous decade-long spell as United’s executive vice-chairman.

He was widely criticised for his prominent role in decision-making with no background in football and was the target of protests, some of which unfolded outside his Manchester home.

Woodward left the club in February last year as Richard Arnold replaced him and instantly delegated football-based decisions to John Murtough and Erik ten Hag.
