Julian Nagelsmann’s previous comments on Arsenal, as well as Chelsea legend John Terry, may not go down well with Tottenham supporters. The German is one of the favourites to be named the next permanent Spurs boss.
Nagelsmann was only sacked by Bayern Munich late last week. His departure was a surprise and he was swiftly replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Spurs have tried and failed to lure him to the club before and have reportedly put him on a 10-man shortlist to be their next boss. However, they may want to look at some of his past comments before making another approach.
Two years ago, Nagelsmann gave an insight into his managerial career so far to the official Bundesliga website. He revealed he was an admirer of Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal.

Nagelsmann is also a fan of the Gunners’ former boss Arsene Wenger. He said: “I also like Barcelona and Arsenal as well as the work of Arsene Wenger.”
But it gets worse for Spurs fans. Nagelsmann revealed in October 2021 that his footballing idol was the Chelsea legend Terry.
Nagelsmann’s playing career was cruelly cut short due to injury at the age of 20. He was a central defender and says he tried to emulate Terry when he was on the pitch.
When asked who his idol was, Nagelsmann told The Times: “John Terry. It was crazy, because when I was a youth player I played with [close friend] Christian Trasch. I called him Patrick – Patrick Vieira – because he played No 6 and he called me John Terry, ‘Johnny’.

“In those days, Terry was one of the best central defenders – I think there was one season he did not lose one duel. He was brave with his head. I was good with my feet but better with my head, and there were some similarities, he was kind of a role model.”
Nagelsmann has met Terry and had an awkward encounter. He added: “I talked to him for about three minutes and explained to him that I was John Terry in the early days as well. I had to explain the situation, as he looked [at me] weird.”
Terry is widely regarded as the best captain, and one of the best players, in Chelsea’s history. He won five Premier League titles and the Champions League, among other major honours, during his time at Stamford Bridge.
