Jose Mourinho has insisted Harry Kane is far more concerned about winning the Euros with England than he is about the Golden Boot – and reiterated that Gareth Southgate’s men can bring football home this summer.

Kane has overcome a slow start at Euro 2020 to become a Golden Boot contender after firing in three goals in his last two matches and is now only two goals behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Patrik Schick, who have both been eliminated from the tournament.

The England skipper showed ruthless form in front of goal by grabbing a brace in the 4-0 victory over Ukraine in the quarter-finals and will pose a huge scoring threat to Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday evening.

Harry Kane only cares about winning the Euros despite Golden Boot chances, says Mourinho

But Mourinho, who managed last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner Kane at Tottenham before he was fired, believes the striker’s main goal at Euro 2020 is to win the tournament with England.

‘I don’t think he cares about the Golden Boot, I don’t think he cares, honestly,’ said on TalkSPORT this morning.

‘I think he would care about it if he feels England has no chance to win it, and he probably thinks I cannot win the big one with England, so let me win the individual one for myself.

‘I spoke with him when he was on zero goals, and he was happy – because the team was winning.

‘And then I spoke with him after he’d scored three goals and his happiness had doubled.

‘He has lots of individual awards, or at least a few already, but he doesn’t want this one. He wants to go all the way, he wants to win the Euros with England.’

Mourinho knows Kane well, having worked with him at Spurs before being axed last season

The Portuguese boss has said throughout the tournament that England have the capabilities to claim Euro 2020 glory and double down on his belief by insisting that football can ‘absolutely’ come home this summer.

However, Mourinho warned Gareth Southgate’s men to ‘be careful’ because Denmark will be a far bigger challenge than Ukraine were in the last round.

He added: ‘Yes, absolutely yes [England can win it], but I will also think, “be careful, be careful”, because Denmark is not Ukraine.

‘Before the Ukraine game I said it was no problem if Gareth decides to rest players who were on a yellow card or rest Harry Maguire due to his fitness, I was completely convinced it was going to be an easy match.

‘But this one, I keep thinking and I keep singing, ‘it’s coming home’, but I will also say, ‘be careful, be careful’, because Denmark will be a much tougher opposition.’
