Mount needs helping hand from two Man Utd players as Chelsea star faces change
Mason Mount dresses up as Spiderman with a football
Mason Mount is likely to join Manchester United this summer, with Chelsea resigned to losing their academy graduate. And, should a move to Old Trafford take place, he’ll need a helping hand from either Raphael Varane or Bruno Fernandes to acquire his dream shirt number. The latter is unlikely to give up his No 8, however, but Varane may feel more inclined to change things up…
At club level, Mount has only ever worn the No 8 or No 19 shirt.
But both jerseys are currently occupied, meaning it’s possible the Chelsea playmaker will have to accept a brand new jersey over at Old Trafford.
Varane sports the No 19 and has done ever since moving from Real Madrid back in the summer transfer window of 2021.
Fernandes, meanwhile, took the No 8 when Juan Mata was shown the door 12 months ago.
If Mount is to continue his tradition of wearing those two numbers at club level, then he’ll need a helping hand.

It’s hard to see Fernandes giving up the No 8 shirt for his team-mate, unless of course he was given the iconic No 7.
So that means the Chelsea star is likely to take on a different set of digits in the event of any expected move to the Blues’ Premier League rivals.
The No 7 is vacant, having previously been worn by Cristiano Ronaldo.
But Mount isn’t a big enough name to do it justice. United like a superstar to sport that particular number – and it’s likelier one of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho will be given it instead.
The No 11 may soon be free if United don’t choose to welcome Mason Greenwood back into the fold.

It is another special number at the club, having been worn by the legendary Ryan Giggs during his time there.
Fred could leave United for Fulham this summer, which would leave the No 17 free.
Loan stars Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst returning to their parent clubs would enable the No 15 and No 27 shirts to be taken.
And other shirt number options, which are vacant, include the No 13, No 24 and No 32 as well.
Meanwhile, speaking on Sunday, Roy Keane had his say on the possibility of Mount moving to his old side.

“I wouldn’t be so sure about Mount,” he told Sky Sports.
“They’re going to be linked with lots of players but the one that would excite you really is [Harry] Kane.”
On Mount, he added: “He’s just gone off the boil a little bit.
“I know he can bounce back and he’s got qualities and I was raving about him a few years ago.
“He’s just gone missing the last year or two, had one or two injuries, the fact he can’t get in a bad Chelsea team.
“I wouldn’t be hanging my hat too much on him in terms of improving United and closing the gap.
“I think he’s a good player but would he improve United? I’m not so sure.
“I think [Declan[] Rice would, he would be a decent signing but in terms of the excitement and goalscoring, they’ve got to go for Kane but can you see Spurs selling to United?
“Very, very difficult.”
