Morrison opens up on West Ham exit and clash with Allardyce over new contract
Ravel Morrison has insisted that he would’ve loved to have spent his whole career with West Ham after he failed to break into the Manchester United first-team.
The former England youth international is currently without a club after a mutual contract terminational at ADO Den Haag, and has been speaking about his career with Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE.
The 28-year-old was asked about an alleged disagreement with Sam Allardyce – which might have had an impact on his status as a key player at Upton Park.
Morrison made a total of 24 appearances netting five times for the Hammers between 2012 and 2015, memorably scoring in a 3-0 win away to Tottenham to win the club’s Goal of the Season award.
When asked if Allardyce’s alleged request for Morrison to change agent forced him to leave West Ham, the former United midfielder replied: “Erm… yeah. If I had the opportunity I would’ve stayed at West Ham all the way through.
“I had offers to go to other teams, Newcastle, Fulham, but I enjoyed West Ham that much. The club, the people, the fans, I would’ve stayed there all the way through football.
“But look, Sam is a top guy, we just went through a difficult period, but in football stuff happens some times and it can be frustrating, it can be the best or the worst thing.”
Ferdinand then brought up the relationship with Allardyce, asking Morrison whether he would’ve been able to stay at West Ham if he had used a different agent.
Morrison then alleged: “Yeah. See with West Ham yeah, I had two years left and they offered me a deal. I didn’t need another deal or another contract, I was happy with what I was on.
“I can remember going to meet the manager, and he said that for me to get this contract I needed to sign with his agent.

“Obviously I’ve got loyalties, I’m not just going to turn my back on someone and say ‘I don’t need you anymore’ because someone’s brought something for me.
“So then it got a bit sticky, I turned around and said no. They didn’t pull it away at first, when I said no, then I came into training the day I was meant to sign it and I got pulled into his office.
“They said that don’t want to give me a contract anymore.”
